Swiss Design is a simple and fairly straightforward artstyle, oftentimes following a grid, that I see most commonly used for things like posters. It is usually decorated with assymetric basic geometrical shapes with minimal colors, this simplicity allows for the usual subjectivity of art to be mostly removed, focusing more on the typography of the design and clearing up what the purpose of the piece is. One of the most famous aspects of the Swiss artstyle is the usage of non serif typefaces, most commonly Helvetica. Its commonly used for this artstyle as it has a simple and professional look which fits in perfectly with the simple geometric shapes used as decoration in these art pieces.
Josef Müller-Brockmann
Josef Müller-Brockmann was a swiss graphic designer who had a large part in the creation of this art movement. He has created some of the most famous Swiss style art works that i'll show in a gallery below. He spent a lot of his time experimenting with different concepts in his work such as visual metaphor and constructive design. He wanted to focus on everything being very legible and straightforward while still feeling abstract. Josef Müller-Brockmann would oftentimes use very strict grids to keep his art feeling balanced, which to this day is still one of the most important parts of this design style.
